Action Academy
Action Academy
Action Academy is our virtual 10 week Summer internship program for college-aged people to learn more about voting history in America. During the summer, we meet twice a week, learn together in state crews, and do action together. You may be able to get college credits too!
That’s what we do here. This summer, over 10 weeks online, you’ll explore the deep, complex history of voting rights in America—how it’s been expanded, how it’s been restricted, and why that fight still matters today. But you won’t just be learning about it—you’ll be practicing it. Through immersive activities, team-based challenges, and real-world civic engagement, you’ll begin building your own voice as a leader.
You’ll be learning alongside other passionate students and guided by a team of Action Academy grads, scholars, organizers, and change-makers who are doing this work every day.
MISSION
The mission of Action Academy is to provide transformative, historically-informed, and community-centered experiences that empower young people to grow as leaders and active citizens. By grounding participants in the history of social movements, civic engagement, and community activism, the program fosters critical thinking, empathy, and a strong sense of responsibility. The goal is to cultivate lasting habits of civic participation and public leadership, laying the foundation for an active and engaged civic lifestyle.
The curriculum is organized into three core learning modules—Mindset, Mojo, and Mobilize—each offering a clear course map with weekly instruction, activities, and targeted competencies focused on history, civic engagement, and leadership development. At the conclusion of the program, participants will receive a $1,000 award and be equipped to mobilize communities, engage elected officials, and critically analyze policy through a civic leadership lens.
